W/C 10th October 2022 – Fun, Friendships, Mud & Learning

Zoos are great entertainment, but their big goal is to educate the public about wildlife and what we can do to protect them. Zoo animals are sort of like ambassadors for their counterparts in the wild. Our trip to the Zoo allowed our young people in a relaxed fun environment to learn about the animals, where they come from, what they eat etc. When children visit a zoo they learn and realise the importance of environmental awareness and its impact on people’s lives. It helps them become better, kinder and play a role in its conservation.

A week would not be complete without a little food! Young people learning to cook for themselves – a great life skill being learned.

Over in Newmarket they have been busy working on different projects from building a locomotive train safety box, building miniature models and car mechanics. Teaching young people how to act in a workshop environment to build confidence for future careers.

Newmarket Outside area getting a facelift. Young People and their Instructors building decking and fencing so there is a nice outside space available. Also a little gardening to help keep the local area looking nice!

Basic Electrics and Basic Plumbing were also in full swing at Newmarket this week. Learning how to change a basic fuse or fix a burst water pipe are skills for life!

Trench digging, model building, outdoors, nature, friendship, mud & fun – what better way to learn!

Challenge set and achieved. For most children who want to sit in front of Xbox or Playstation the thought of going up these steps would be disheartening, well done to our young people who braved and won the challenge – outdoors, exercise – great for mental health and wellbeing.

We finish the week off with Maths/English, reading game scenarios and using our fine motor skills – sometimes computer games can be beneficial to a young persons learning. Some outdoor colouring and some research into electric bikes rounded off last weeks activities for our young people.

As I write these blogs with photos and descriptions and I am always amazed by our young people. How they have gone from hating learning, to loving it. Maybe they don’t always know they are learning, becuase who would believe being outside, having fun in mud can be learning?!

OUR ETHOS

No one can begin to affect the world around them until they are CONFIDENT , COMFORTABLE, happy in their own skin and have found their SPARK! We take the time to understand and develop programmes from where the learner is in the world not where we think they should be. The work is underpinned by the Pushforward Wellbeing Index which looks at five key factors to wellbeing.
