This week we were lucky that the sunshine shone…heading us nicely into Autumn – so we took the opportunity to visit the beach – some fun, some friendships forming and sensory play.

Some awesome arts & crafts with spray paint creating fantastic photos of planets – Banksy watch out!

We also carried out some exciting Bicarbonate of Soda science experiments.

Here we are playing a times tables game, making patterns following cards at different levels of difficulty. Working together with a peer to help with maths based activities:

Looking for bugs in jelly sensory play focusing on language / dishing out sand and counting it out. And chill out time with ‘Buddy’. Working on our Sensory / dexterity / fine motor skills, and maths.

Here we have a budding boxer learning how to wrap his hands ready for some fitness:

We don’t want our kids stuck in front of a computer all day – but technology does have its advantages, here we are doing some gramma work and creating a story book.

Regulation is something everyone continually works on whether we are aware of it or not. We all encounter trying circumstances that can test our limits. If we can recognise when we are becoming less regulated, we are able to do something about it to manage our feelings and get ourselves to a healthy place. This comes more naturally for some, but for others it is a skill that needs more attention and practice. This is the goal of The Zones of Regulation.
Here we are working on looking at different situations and what zone they would put them in.

Wow some awesome maths works here on; properties of 2d shapes, quadrilaterals, right angles, isosceles & equilateral triangles and circle properties.

Keeping learning appropriate for the age and thinking about different ways to engage young people – here we are learning through craft and play.

And we explore the solar system.

Over in Newmarket 2 we have had various different woodwork projects, making bow ties for wood project, making wooden toys. a motorbike stand. chopping boards and continuing with our Harry Potter themed bench project with some infill of resin. Some of these projects are part of our enterprise initiative, making items that we can then sell – all life skills being learned to help with independence into adulthood.

Here we are learning how to buy train tickets, learn how to work out destinations, visiting new places – something that for some young people never having learned these life skills can be really scary. This was an awesome day out – even if both student and instructor got caught in a heavy rain down pour – well done for keeping on smiling!

A trip also to High Lodge Go Ape and Sea Life Centre. Both activities taking young people out of their comfort zone, experiencing new adventures and learning about the world around them.

Of course our week would not be complete with our some cooking. As we wait for our new kitchen/community cafĂ© to be kitted out with all the equipment we need – we have done a little Sushi making this week.

Newmarket 1 has been very quiet this week but there is an awesome project bubbling in the background – here is a little hint (can’t wait to see the project get started!):

We finish the week off with a visit to Tostock Farm and some bouncing on the wettest trampoline!

Our Ethos
No one can begin to affect the world around them until they are CONFIDENT , COMFORTABLE, happy in their own skin and have found their SPARK! We take the time to understand and develop programmes from where the learner is in the world not where we think they should be.
