W/C 21st November 2022 – May The Force Be With You!

Photography can be of stunning sceneries, appreciating buildings and nature, making memories or simply bringing your favorite Star Wars characters to life! This week our young people have been experimenting and achieving some amazing results with their photography sessions. Learning the art of patience, creativity. Understanding how to take a good picture of still and moving objects and the editing involved.

Some of our young people visited the local Fire Station. We were so impressed how well behaved they were, they listened, asked questions, and had great fun looking around the engines and fire station. Big thank you to Bury St Edmunds Fire Station and Crew for allowing us to look around.

“I feel the need, the need for speed!”. Ok our young people may not have reached the dizzy speeds of a motorbike, but they had fun. Using their fine motor skills, learning to listen and be careful around expensive equipment, understanding safety equipment and why we wear helmets.

Another type of 2 wheels for these two. Our Young Person is having a session on Bike Maintenance and is being shown how to fix a bicycle, learning how to change tyres, check brakes and gears. Even in the rain!

Over in Newmarket in the carpentry section our young person finished off their chopping board, sanded and varnished. Seems a shame to cut on such a thing of beauty!

We have had a bit of Football Fever this week. We had lots of football being played outside, watched on the telly and even handed out a few Red Cards!

We had a session filing out a quiz, so the young people could find out more about the adults and the other way too. They were really engaged with this fun activity. Usually handwriting can be a challenge but there was no issue in filing these forms out! Engaging with our people is one of the most important elements of what we do – when you find something they connect with, something they enjoy – they learn without realising.

Making a Solar System. Learning about the different planets in a fun and creative way. Learning about the solar system can allow our young children to gain a greater appreciation for the frailness of Earth. Understanding how special our planet is, how we can protect it and keep it safe and healthy for their generation to live in.

As always, we love a bit of cooking – this time it was in the big outdoors. Outdoor cooking combines adventuresome elements; fire, knives, sharp skewers, hot pots, etc. In a controlled environment to keep kids safe while learning valuable life skills.

And it’s not just our Young People that learn each week – the team also get training!

We also had to have updated photo’s (smile for the camera Daisy!).

Our Ethos

No one can begin to affect the world around them until they are CONFIDENT , COMFORTABLE, happy in their own skin and have found their SPARK! We take the time to understand and develop programmes from where the learner is in the world not where we think they should be.
