The first week at school can be scary for any young person. So we make ours feel welcome, confident, comfortable and ultimately find their spark that will allow them to flourish. Here we have painting, games outside, marble run – learning to count and separate colors. Our marble run even became a plane and rocket!

This week we have been working with wood. The final touches to the School Bench Project are coming together. The frame has been powered coated, the wood has been sanded, resin applied, varnished. The next wood project this week was to make a wooden Christmas tree. We have also been making wooden swords to help with reenactment games.
Wood can be unforgiving, if you make a mistake, – so here we are practicing, learning, using tools to help, using maths and logical thinking and ultimately achieving great results the young people can be super proud of.

Over in Newmarket we are getting excited about our next project. It is due to arrive soon!

From Snooker Balls to Footballs. Today another red card was issued, wonder what Jon did wrong?! Snooker and Football help with fine motor skills, fitness, working as a team, learning and understanding and respect rules of the game.

Cooking can help young people learn a valuable life skill. Learn and practice some basic math concepts and build language skills. Reading, articulating, learning. Helping to build their self-confidence and lay the foundation for healthy eating habits. Its also great fun and you have something lovely to eat at the end of your hard work!

This week we also had some map reading skills. Our young person is showing Jaz how to find where they are located and they ended up walking 5 miles that day. So not only great lesson learned but also fitness thrown in.

WOW look at these brave youngsters. Climbing up so high!
Climbing plays a key role in early childhood motor skills development. Helping with directional awareness, and also boosts physical skills such as balance, hand and foot coordination, and agility.

Some of our older children are starting to learn the benefits of keeping fit in the gym. Learning how to correctly and safely use equipment.
Exercise helps our young people keep a healthy weight and lower their risk of some diseases. Exercising regularly can help prevent weight gain, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure. Bone-strengthening exercise — like jumping, running, or lifting weights — can help keep bones strong.

Art and craft activities give young people a sense of achievement and allow them to take pride in their work which builds confidence. Making art is a great, safe way to discover that it’s okay to make mistakes and that getting things ‘wrong’ can lead you to a whole new idea. Here we have our practitioner Jaz helping our young people have fun painting pottery – hopefully next week we will have photos of the end result.

Our Ethos
No one can begin to affect the world around them until they are CONFIDENT , COMFORTABLE, happy in their own skin and have found their SPARK! We take the time to understand and develop programmes from where the learner is in the world not where we think they should be.
