WC 9th October 2023 – Music is All Around Us. All We Have to Do is Listen.

If music be the food of love…” a famous music-related quotation from Shakespeare, this phrase has been heard a hundred times. It has become a cliché, to be rolled out whenever Shakespeare and music are mentioned in the same sentence.

Here we have hand made a beautifully carved music speaker system…

And if “music is food to the heart, food is music to the body” – Gregory David Roberts

We have been learning how to purchase the right ingredients, measuring, weighing, cooking, eating! We have also been learning how to cook on a budget for the whole family.

  • Strawberry Cheesecake
  • Churro Balls
  • Millionaire Shortbread
  • Tacos
  • Pancakes
  • Chocolate Brownies
  • And we finish off with a stunning birthday cake

So for an analogy; if a body cannot function without food, a car cannot run without its food…petrol. So in Newmarket 1 we are learning how to service cars so they function properly.

Learning how to do a basic service on a car is a brilliant starting point for any young person looking to move into the world of car mechanics – today we carried out a service which included an:

  • Oil change
  • Oil filter
  • Air filter
  • Spark plugs
  • Cabin filter
  • Front discs
  • Front pads
  • Reset service light
  • Check rear brake shoes

and a little bit of work on the Banger Car replacing the worn link rod…

How clever is this!…A little video editing with our young people this week just in time for Halloween….

On a more academic note we have been learning about how to calculate the circumference of Circles in preparation for a looming functional skills exam and GCSE in the future.

With Primary we have been busy using Reading Eggs and working out some maths questions

When student becomes teacher. Here we are being showing some tips on plumbing…

A little football and some golf for our outside sporting activities this week.

Some offsite educational visits to Ed Sheeran’s house near Framlingham and some bird watching at Felixstowe – not sure we saw many different varieties of birds, but it was great to be outside in the fresh air.

Some human body science now from inside to out. From reading about the human body to investigating the jaw and whether we have a spring in our mouths to a hunt for animal bones and comparing them to the model human skull, looking at teeth and importance of them and we finish off with a little facial.

Our Arts & Crafts this week have been painting, making playdough and rainbow salt jars.

Understanding our emotions is important. Here we are making a Zones Poster. A picture of an emotion in each Zone and talking about how this feels.

Emotional awareness helps us know what we need and want (or don’t want!). It helps us build better relationships. That’s because being aware of our emotions can help us talk about feelings more clearly, avoid or resolve conflicts better, and move past difficult feelings more easily.

And when we have made a mess, we must learn to clear it up and apparently – ‘this was very satisfying’.

What a busy week again. And when we have been busy how do we relax? Maybe a racing game iwth our friends, diving in a bin or chilling on the bean bags!

Our Ethos

No one can begin to affect the world around them until they are CONFIDENT , COMFORTABLE, happy in their own skin and have found their SPARK! We take the time to understand and develop programmes from where the learner is in the world not where we think they should be.
